Night Hike at Refugio Vida Silvestre

The Monteverde wildlife refuge combines reforestation, protection of water resources and research with ecotourism. It has become a favourite place for night walks, because most of the wildlife here is at its most active after dark.

With a certified guide and flashlights you walk the refuge’s trails looking for frogs, snakes and insects, for animals such as sloths, ocelots, tarantulas and armadillos, and for plants like the strangler fig. Sightings are never guaranteed — nature decides.

The refuge has been looked after by the Camacho family for three generations, and their conservation work supports wildlife protection across Costa Rica.
