About this experience

Founded in 1972, the Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological Reserve protects about 3,500 hectares of forest and is one of the best-known reserves in Costa Rica. Its geography and climate create four ecological life zones, each with its own ecosystems and a diverse community of mammals, birds, butterflies, amphibians, reptiles and insects.

The plant life is just as striking: mosses, epiphytes, lianas and trees cover the cloud forest. Your certified naturalist guide walks you through primary and secondary forest and explains how it all fits together.

The reserve is also a centre of conservation and scientific research, so a visit supports its protection.
