About this experience
Don Juan Cruz was born in 1937 and is a pioneer of the Monteverde area. He and his family have worked with coffee and cocoa for generations — two crops at the heart of Costa Rican culture.
The tour began in 2006, when visitors to the family’s café kept asking how coffee is made. You follow the whole process, from harvesting the beans to the cup you drink in the morning, and walk through Don Juan’s farm to see coffee plants, cocoa and other local crops up close.
You finish with coffee and chocolate tastings. Don Juan is accompanied by his loyal dog, Tequila.
